Blackcomb UV Installation
The Blackcomb UV’s by Luminor are highly customisable UV disinfection units which are designed to be easy to use. The UV controller is simple to understand and very easy to use, alerting users to when maintenance is required. The most common maintenance that needs doing on Blackcomb UV’s are the replacement of the UV lamp and replacement of the sleeve.
This guide will cover the simple installation process of the Blackcomb UV’s, followed by the method for replacing lamps and sleeves.
Installing Blackcomb UV

1: Install the unit vertically or horizontally. Vertical is the preferred method of installation as this will make removing bulbs and sleeves much easier.
2: When installing the Blackcomb UV, ensure you have space (same as the units length) above the top of the unit so you can easily remove the UV lamp or sleeve during maintenance.
3: Secure the clamps to the wall. Insert the reactor and fasten the clamps to hold the Blackcomb UV in place.
4: Connect the Blackcomb UV unit to your water supply (water in through the bottom of the Blackcomb UV unit, and water out on the side of the unit. This is situated near the top of the unit.
4a: If you have a 6 series Blackcomb UV model, you can attach the UV sensor via the port on the side of the unit (situated on the opposite side of the outlet). This is done by pushing the sensor into the port until its flush, and hand fastening the sensor nut.
4b: If you do not have a UV sensor, the Blackcomb unit will have a glow plug. Leave this installed.
5: Remove the quartz sleeve from its packaging using lint free gloves.
6: Insert the quartz sleeve into the reactor chamber, ensuring it is resting in the centre of the basket at the other end of the reactor (you will need to do this by feel, as you obviously cannot see the basket through the reactor chamber).
7: Once the quartz sleeve is seated correctly, remove the O-ring from its packaging and place over the quartz sleeve, ensuring that it is secured against the lip of the reactor.
8: Drop the spring into the quartz sleeve.
9: Screw on the gland nut (the large black covering that screws onto the reactor). Hand tighten only, do not use any tools.
10: Turn on the water supply and check for leaks.
11: The most common leak is that a proper seal has not been achieved with the O-ring. If the unit leaks, then turn off the water supply, remove the gland nut and check that the O-ring is seated properly. Push the O-ring firmly against the lip of the reactor, replace the gland nut and try again with the water supply.
12: Mount the UV controller on the wall, above or to the side of the Blackcomb UV unit. This ensures that no moisture reaches the controller and to minimise any risk of the unit being damaged in the event of a leak.
13: Plug in the UV Sensor via the IEP port on the side of the controller if you are using a UV sensor.
14: Plug in the lamp key on the side of the controller.
15: Carefully slide the UV lamp into the top of the UV unit. This will insert the UV lamp into the quartz sleeve. Connect the end of the lamp to the lamp connector.
16: Now, push the UV lamp into the gland nut and secure it by turning it a quarter turn clockwise. This will lock the lamp into place.
17: Tighten the ground screw onto the ground lug on the UV reactor.
18: Plug the power chord into the mains.
Replacing the UV Bulb

1: The Blackcomb UV controller will let you know when a lamp change is required.
2: To ensure you have the correct parts, you will find the part number for what you need on the silver label on the reactor, or on the maintenance parts screen of the controller.
3: Shut off the main inlet valve.
4: Drain water from the system by opening an downstream faucet, then close the outlet shutoff valve. If you do not have an outlet shutoff valve, then you will need to be prepared for water to drain from the system.
5: Disconnect the unit from the mains power supply.
6: Use a Philips Head screwdriver to disconnect the ground screw from the ground lug on the side of the reactor.
7: Remove the lamp connector from the reactor by pushing the lamp connector into the gland nut, and turning it a quarter turn counter clockwise.
8: Disconnect the lamp connector from the lamp. (Warning, this may be hot!)
9: Remove the UV lamp from the reactor touching only the ceramic ends. Take the bulb straight out. Do not bend or angel the lamp to avoid breaking it.
10: Remove the new UV lamp from its packaging. Put the new lamp key that comes with the UV lamp to one side for now.
11: Carefully slide the new UV lamp straight into the quartz sleeve in the reactor.
12: Connect the lamp connector to the UV lamp.
13: Push the UV connector down into the gland nut and turn a quarter turn clockwise to lock it into place.
14: Tighten the ground screw back onto the ground lug on the UV reactor.
15: Now you must reset the day counter on the UV controller. To do this, remove the lamp key from the controller and insert the new lamp key.
16: Plug the unit back into the mains power supply.
17: The controller will automatically scroll through all the operating screens until the system is ready again.
18: Complete the necessary steps to turn back on the water supply.
Replacing the Quartz Sleeve

2: To ensure you have the correct parts, you will find the part number for what you need on the silver label on the reactor, or on the maintenance parts screen of the controller.

10: Unscrew the gland nut from the end of the reactor, exposing the edge of the quartz sleeve.
11: Remove the quartz sleeve and O-ring from the reactor by gently twisting and pulling it straight up. Do not bend or angle the quartz sleeve so as to avoid breaking it.
12: Remove the new quartz sleeve from its packaging using lint free gloves.
13: Carefully slide the quartz sleeve into the reactor, ensuring it sits in the basket on the other end of the reactor. (You will have to do this by feel as you cannot see inside the other end of the reactor.)
14: Place the new O-ring on top of the new quartz sleeve. Make sure it sits firmly on the lip of the reactor to prevent leaking.
15: Drop the spring into the quartz sleeve. It is important to remember to do this to ensure the lamp is seated properly and doesn’t break.
16: Replace the gland nut to the top of the reactor. Hand tighten only, do not use any tools.
17: Carefully slide the UV lamp into the quartz sleeve, and reconnect the lamp connector.
18: Secure the lamp connector by pushing it down into the gland nut and turning it a quarter turn clockwise. This will lock it into place.
19: Tighten the ground screw back onto the ground lug on the side of the reactor.
20: Slowly turn the water back on and check to see if there is any leaking from the gland nut. If there is a leak, turn off the water and remove the gland nut. Make sure that the O-ring is firmly seated against the quartz sleeve and lip of the reactor, then try again.
21: If there is no leak, plug the unit back into the mains power supply.
Extra Modules and Upgrades
There are many extra modules and upgrades to the Blackcomb UV, including the UV sensor as mentioned in the above guides. Most of the modules and upgrades are installed the same way in a “chain system” with each module plugging into another, until the final module is plugged into the controller.
