A Guide to Water Filters
What do sediment filters do?
Filtration devices or sediment pre-filters exist as a fine ‘sieve’ to clear water of particulates and dirt. If they are used in a larger system; they are called a pre-filter. They help protect larger systems from damage and allow them to work more efficiently by passing clearer water through them.
We stock a full range from 1-50 micron; A micron is calculated at approximately 1000th of a mm.
The lower the Filter’s Micron Size; the more effective the Filter is at dealing with particulates.
For example; a Spun filter at 5 Micron will be more effective at removing sediment and particulates than a 20 Micron filter. It will also block small sediment much lower on the filtration spectrum.

Pleated
- works by trapping sediment on the surface of the filter.
- low pressure dro
String-Wound
- Higher pressure drop
Spun (Melt-Blown)
- Higher pressure drop
Carbon Block
- Used to treat Chlorinated water
- Most effective at a slow rate, allowing greater contact time
- May need a high pressure to work effectively
GAC (Granular Activate Carbon)
- Used to treat chlorinate water
Do I Need a Filtration Device?
A Filtration device should be used for any major water treatment system.
For domestic use, if your water contains sediment or particulates, a pre-filter should be used.
If your water tastes and smells chlorinated, a carbon block or GAC should be used.
Any treatment process using a UV light should use a Pre-Filter to ensure optimal clarity when the light contacts the water
