When a private borehole supplies more than one property, getting the right borehole water treatment system is essential.
We recently supplied a complete water treatment solution for a fantastic customer with a few holiday homes supplied from the same borehole. The raw borehole water presented several challenges, including ammonium, iron, hardness and turbidity, so a carefully designed combination of treatment technologies was required.
Working alongside one of our trusted customers and installers, we supplied a tailored borehole water filtration and treatment system designed around the specific water quality issues identified.
The Borehole Water Treatment Challenge
Private boreholes can provide an excellent source of water, but the quality of borehole water can vary significantly depending on the local geology and the source itself.
In this case, testing identified several parameters that required treatment:
- Ammonium
- Iron
- Hardness
- Turbidity
These issues can cause a range of problems, from discolouration and staining to poor water quality, scale and an unattractive appearance.
Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, the treatment system was designed around the individual characteristics of the borehole.
The Borehole Water Treatment Solution
For this project, we supplied three key stages of treatment:
10″ x 44″ AG+ Filtration
The first stage of the system was a 10″ x 44″ AG+ filtration system, providing filtration as part of the overall treatment process.
This helps to address suspended particles and turbidity while supporting the performance of the treatment stages that follow.
10″ x 54″ Ecomix
At the heart of the system is a 10″ x 54″ Ecomix treatment system.
Ecomix is particularly useful where borehole water presents a combination of issues rather than a single problem. In this application, it was selected as part of the solution for the hardness, iron and ammonium identified in the borehole water.
This type of multi-parameter treatment can be particularly valuable for private water supplies, where several contaminants can be present at the same time.
Luminor UV Water Treatment
Why Luminor UV Was Included in This Project
With the holiday homes relying on the same private borehole, ensuring the water supply was properly protected was an important part of the overall solution. After the AG+ and Ecomix systems have treated the turbidity, iron, hardness and ammonium, the Luminor UV provides the final stage of treatment.
The UV system uses ultraviolet light to help control microbiological contamination, providing an additional layer of protection before the treated water reaches both holiday homes.
For the customer, this means greater peace of mind that the water being supplied throughout their properties has an additional level of microbiological protection. This is particularly valuable for holiday homes, where the properties may be occupied by
The added smart monitoring capabilities available with Luminor can provide even more reassurance. The system can be monitored remotely, allowing the customer or installer to keep an eye on its status without needing to be physically at the property. It’s a smart addition that helps make managing a private borehole water supply easier, more convenient and more reassuring.
Smarter UV Water Treatment with Luminor
One of the things we particularly like about the Luminor range is that the technology goes beyond simply treating the water.
For applications such as holiday homes, remote properties and multiple sites, the ability to monitor a UV system can be a real advantage.
The Luminor UV Concierge module provides an integrated Wi-Fi solution that can be accessed through web, Android and iOS, with features including:
- Remote system monitoring
- Data logging, including UV output over time
- Secure cloud-based data management
- Monitoring of one or multiple systems
- Easy set-up and login
- System information available remotely
This means an owner or installer can have much greater visibility of the UV system without necessarily needing to be at the property.
Luminor also offers optional UV monitoring sensors, while its dealer programming module allows the controller display to be customised, useful for installers who want their company information and service details associated with the system.
For holiday homes, this type of additional monitoring can provide valuable reassurance, particularly where the properties are not occupied year-round.
A Complete Solution for a Private Borehole Water Supply
The completed system combines AG+ filtration, Ecomix treatment and Luminor UV technology to create a complete approach to the customer’s borehole water quality.
The system was designed specifically around the results of the borehole water analysis, addressing the combination of:
Iron + Hardness + Ammonium + Turbidity
This highlights why professional borehole water testing and water treatment design are so important. Different boreholes can present very different water quality challenges, so the right treatment equipment needs to be selected based on the actual water analysis.
Working with Trusted Installers
As a water treatment wholesaler, we work closely with a network of trusted customers and installers who can specify and install solutions for a wide range of applications.
For this project, we supplied the equipment to one of our trusted customers, who carried out the installation at the holiday homes.
We were delighted to support them with the equipment and technical solution for this project.
