At J&F Water Treatment, we recently completed a successful water treatment installation for a rural glamping site featuring multiple shepherd huts and glamping pods.
The site sourced its water from a private borehole, which is a common and sustainable solution in remote or off-grid locations. However, water testing revealed a few typical borehole water quality issues: low pH and a slight iron exceedance.
Fortunately, this was an easy and efficient fix and one that resulted in clean, safe, and great-tasting water for both potable use and agricultural applications on-site.
Project Overview
Client Type: Rural glamping and smallholding site
Water Source: Borehole supply
Primary Use:
- Potable water for shepherd huts / glamping pods
- General agricultural water supply
Water Quality Issues Identified
After water analysis, two key treatment challenges were identified:
- Low pH water: Acidic water, which can corrode plumbing and fixtures, and is not suitable for direct consumption.
- Small iron exceedance: While minor, iron can stain fixtures, affect water taste, and cause discolouration.
Importantly, there were low levels of calcium and magnesium, meaning water hardness was not a concern. There was also little to no manganese detected — simplifying the treatment process.
J&F’s Water Treatment Solution
We provided a low-maintenance and highly effective filtration system that addressed all issues without overengineering the setup.
pH Correction Unit with Juraperle Media
We installed a pH correction unit using Juraperle – a natural, food-grade calcium carbonate media. Juraperle safely raises the pH of acidic water, providing neutral, non-corrosive water ideal for both drinking and plumbing protection.
Iron Removal Using Pyrolox Media
To tackle the minor iron presence, we installed a media filter using Pyrolox, a powerful and chemical-free solution for oxidizing and filtering out iron. Pyrolox is especially effective where iron levels are low, and no manganese is present.
This solution required no additional chemicals, making it ideal for rural and low-intervention sites.
Results: Clean, Safe Water On Tap!
Thanks to our tailored treatment system, the glamping site now benefits from:
- Potable standard water across all shepherd huts and pods
- Safe agricultural water supply for livestock and irrigation
- Low maintenance, long-life equipment
- No staining, metallic tastes, or plumbing concerns
The setup is now delivering clean, compliant borehole water to every part of the site and the result is clear:
Happy guests. Happy owners. Happy campers!
