Borehole pH Correction System for Hotel & Self-Catering Accommodation – Co. Kerry, Ireland

Borehole Water TreatmentJ&F Water Treatment recently supplied a compact borehole water pH correction system in Co. Kerry, Ireland, for a hotel site that also operates several self-catering holiday accommodation units powered by a private borehole.

The customer contacted J&F after identifying low pH (acidic borehole water) as the only issue affecting their water supply. With increasing guest usage across both the main hotel and self-catering properties, the system needed to deliver reliable performance while fitting into a very restricted plant room space.

The Challenge: Low pH Borehole Water in a Hotel Setting

The borehole water tested at pH 6.2, which is below the recommended level for commercial and domestic use. Acidic water can cause a range of problems, particularly in hospitality environments such as hotels and holiday accommodation, including:

  • Corrosion of pipework and fittings
  • Damage to storage tanks and water heaters
  • Metallic taste in drinking water
  • Long-term maintenance costs
  • Potential issues with guest satisfaction and water quality standards

The customer had already identified that pH correction was the only treatment required, so the priority was a reliable, space-efficient solution suitable for a busy hotel site in rural Ireland.

The Solution Supplied by J&F Water Treatment

Due to limited space in the plant room, a standard single larger pH correction unit would not fit. Instead, J&F supplied two compact pH correction units installed in parallel to maximise flow while keeping the footprint small.

System supplied:

  •  2 × 1044CIF pH Correction Units
  •  Filled with Juraperle pH correction media
  • Installed in parallel to increase flow rate
  • Designed to feed a 12,000-litre storage tank

This setup provides a combined flow rate of up to 2.6 m³ per hour, ensuring consistent treated water supply to both the hotel and the self-catering accommodation on site.

Why This System Works for Hotels and Self-Catering Sites

Hotels and holiday accommodation using borehole water often require higher flow rates than domestic systems, particularly during peak guest usage times. By installing two pH units in parallel, J&F was able to:

  •  Maintain strong flow for multiple accommodation units
  • Save valuable plant room space
  • Provide reliable pH correction for guest water supply
  • Ensure long-term protection of pipework and storage tanks
  • Deliver a scalable solution if demand increases in the future

The Result

The hotel in Co. Kerry now benefits from a fully corrected borehole water supply, with pH levels brought back to a safe and stable range before entering the 12,000L storage tank.

The compact parallel system means the customer achieved the required flow rate without needing a larger plant room, making it an ideal solution for hospitality sites in rural Ireland that rely on private boreholes.
