The Challenge
A UK dairy milk farm contacted J&F Water Treatment due to ongoing water quality issues affecting daily dairy operations. The private water supply showed elevated turbidity, along with iron and manganese contamination, causing discoloured water, staining on equipment and concerns around water quality for milk production, wash-down processes and livestock use.
A level of water hardness was also present, contributing to limescale build-up on dairy equipment and reduced efficiency. For a working dairy milk farm, access to clean, compliant and reliable water is critical to maintain milk quality, animal welfare and operational efficiency.
The Solution
Following a full assessment, J&F Water Treatment designed and supplied a bespoke water treatment system for a dairy farm, specifically tailored to treat private water supplies used in milk farming.
The solution included:
- Filter AG unit to remove turbidity, sediment and suspended solids
- Ecomix A filtration media to effectively reduce iron, manganese and hardness in one system

The Result
The system has now been fully installed and commissioned. Following a recent catch up call with the customer, the equipment is up and running exactly as designed. Water clarity has improved significantly, iron and manganese levels have been reduced, and hardness is now under control.
