This week we supplied a huge water treatment system that was specifically tailored, to go out to a cattle farm. The reason they needed this was for the wash down and cleaning the floors in the farm. This water has to be clean and free from contaminants due to the cattle farm working within the dairy food industry. When investigating their water to know how to treat it properly, we found the following issues:
As a result of the contaminants in their water supply, we wanted to come up with the perfect solution to provide safe, filtered water on this farm, and we think we did a pretty good job!
What we supplied
- Filter Ag Plus – Sediment and turbidity reduction
- Pyrolox – Iron and Manganese removal
- Antiscalant dosing- The source water was very hard
- Carbon unit – Colour and odour improvement
- MO-9 with Permeate flushing assembly – Mainly for the sulphate and sodium treatment
- PH correction – Water was acidic
- UV Disinfection- Pathogenic bacteria present in the source water
First things first we supplied Filter AG Plus as it has a large surface area so will work well to help the amount of water this farm uses, it has a microporous structure, which means it’s highly efficient for turbidity filtration. Turbidity in water should be no greater than 4.0 NTU’s (Nephelometric Turbidity Units). Filter AG Plus is a sediment filtration media with a rough surface and internal porosity allowing for much longer and more effective filter runs. This reduces backwash frequency and conserves water. This filter media can remove suspended irons, organic matter, silt and dirt from your water supply. It is much more effective than traditional sand filters and needs less water to backwash the system.
To add to this brilliant full specified system came Pyrolox. This filter media is fantastic at removing iron, manganese and hydrogen sulphide from your water. This treatment has been used in water filtration for over 75 years so that’s gotta mean something right?
The antiscalant dosing we supplied is to help reduce hardness which as a result protects the membranes. It acts like a softener, so the membranes don’t have to deal with calcium and magnesium in the water.
Carbon unit came next, which was made up of coconut shell Aquasorb carbon. This is to deal with any chlorine which protects the membranes in the RO, and also improves taste and odour. Carbon is widely used to ‘polish’ treated water.
Onto the main event, the MO-9. This Reverse Osmosis system from Ecosoft, will provide between 9 – 12m3/hour of purified water. This RO is suitable for industries such as chemical productions, agriculture and food and drink processing. The MO-9 is a fully automated system that also self-monitors. This ensures you get the best quality water possible, it is an ideal solution for your water requirements.
This RO system can alert you to any failures or required maintenance, such as;
- Low feed water pressure
- High operating pressure
- High permeate conductivity
- Phase or voltage failure
So it’s a great full water treatment system to have due to the constant monitoring, meaning it can be run completely autonomously.
You may or may not have heard us banging on about pH correction multiple times now! But it’s very important as due to this cattle farm being in the food industry, the ideal level for the water should be within a pH of 6.8 – 7.2. In fact any water should be within that range as both acidic water, and alkaline water can be equally as damaging or unpleasant. There are many filter media and resins that help with pH correction such as, Juraplere and Semidol. But as always if you would like help or advice with pH treatment, feel free to get in touch with us, where our experts will be happy to help.
As always the Ultra Violet system is last, as it kills any bacteria in the water supply that could have been shadowed by organic matter and sediment in the water. But you have probably heard all this before. So we will just leave this infographic here about the Blackcomb UVs.
Please remember we can create bespoke water treatment solutions to help with any problem with your water supply. Just give us a call or get in touch here and we will happily talk through some options with you.
